Remove air from the plastic bags and seal them.

Remove the air in the plastic bags so that you will have more space to store them in your shaker bottle. Also, make sure that none of the bags have holes. Secure the Ziploc seal to keep the powder from spilling.

Set them inside your shaker bottle and secure the lid.

If you’re packing light, take all your Ziploc bags and set them inside your shaker bottle. You’ll have your protein powder neatly portioned out and your shaker bottle all in one place.

If all your protein powder doesn’t fit in the shaker bottle, then pack the individual plastic bags in a larger plastic bag. You can bring several large plastic bags, too. But if you want to carry the powder on a plane, keep in mind that anything over 12 ounces needs to be x-ray screened at a security checkpoint.

Let’s say you wanted to use fewer bags to pack your protein powder. Just put all the powder into a large freezer bag and then bring a scoop or measuring cup with you. Then once you get to your destination you can measure out the protein powder.

To be safe, double bag the powder. This way, if one bag breaks, the powder is less likely to spill everywhere inside your checked baggage.

Most airlines will allow you to connect to the WiFi once you reach cruising altitude. But, just in case, be sure to run any updates on your Switch before leaving your home.

You can’t use tabletop mode in airplane mode.

There are two main modes on the Nintendo Switch: handheld mode and tabletop mode. Handheld mode, as the name suggests, means you hold the Switch in your hands while playing, much like you would when using a cell phone or iPad.

Tabletop mode involves setting your Switch on a stand and removing the JoyCon controllers on the sides. Then you use these controllers while your Nintendo Switch is on the stand.

But, tabletop mode only works when you have a WiFi connection; you can’t use the JoyCon controllers wirelessly.

Have you recently bought a weighted blanket? If so, you might be wondering how to wash it. They can get dirty quickly, but they don’t take much time to clean. The easiest way to wash your weighted blanket is to use a washing machine on low or gentle. Wash the weighted blanket cover by itself if possible so your washer can spin more easily. 

Not all weighted blankets are machine washable. In fact, each weighted blanket requires different care. Check out the care tag or instructions that came with your blanket. Be sure to follow those carefully.

Before you follow any general advice on washing weighted blankets, read the instructions carefully. This will keep your blanket and blanket cover in good condition. You are much less likely to ruin your weighted blanket if you follow the instructions. 

If your instructions have faded or you’ve cut them off, here are some general guidelines for washing different types of weighted blankets.

Rayon and Linen Blend Blankets

Wash your rayon linen weighted blanket in cold water only. Warm water breaks down the fabric. Set your washer to the gentle or delicate cycle.

Once your weighted blanket is out of the washing machine, don’t go straight to the dryer. Rayon linen does not hold up when exposed to heat, so it’s best to air dry this blanket. Make sure to consult the manufacturer’s instructions before drying your weighted blanket.

Dry cleaning is popular with the more delicate rayon linen blankets.

Rayon-linen is a soft breathable material that makes for a comfortable weighted blanket.

Fleece Blankets

Like with rayon linen weighted blankets, wash your fleece weighted blanket on the cold gentle cycle in your washer.

Your fleece blanket can be dried on low in your dryer. But, don’t use a dryer sheet. Dryer sheets have fabric softener which makes the fleece retain less water. So, it won’t be as comfortable if the weighted blanket gets too warm. So, just wash the blanket without a dryer sheet. 

Or, you could hang it outside on a clothesline or off of your backyard deck to air dry.

Fleece is lightweight, breathable, and best of all, it doesn’t hold moisture. It’s a great material for those who tend to get hot in their weighted blanket.

Cotton and Cotton Blend Blankets

Cotton is lightweight, breathable, and durable. You can wash your cotton weighted blanket using cold water or warm water. Compared to other weighted blankets, you don’t have to worry as much about ruining the fabric. But, wash your blanket by itself for the best results.

Mink Fur Blankets

Mink fur is similar to the other weighted blanket materials on this list. Simply wash the blanket on the gentle cycle using cold water. For an even softer wash, add some laundry detergent before running the cycle.

Mink fur is a high-end soft fur used for coats, jackets, and blankets. 

Remove the weighted core

If it has a removable weighted core, remove it and scrub it gently with soapy water. Not all weighted cores are machine washable, so your best bet is to hand wash the core. When in doubt, wash it by hand. Check your manufacturer’s instructions to see if the core can be run in your washing machine.

Wash the Cover

Most weighted blankets come with durable and comfortable covers. You can sleep with the cover on the blanket or without the cover. If you sleep with the blanket cover, remove the blanket on the inside first. Then you can wash the cover on a low cold setting and let it air dry. Wash the blanket separately from the cover to keep the fabric in prime condition.

If you need to remove stains from your weighted blanket, you have a couple of options.

Presoak the affected area.

Depending on where the stain is located, you can soak the blanket in soap and water to loosen the stain. Check the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure that your blanket is safe for soaking.

Use a scrub brush, soap, and water to work away at the tough stain(s).

If you are more hands-on, use a scrub brush and some soap and water to scrub away the tough stains. Just dip the brush in the soapy water and lightly scrub the affected area for a couple of minutes.

Drying

If the instructions allow, tumble dry the cover on the lowest setting. If not, air dry the cover.

It’s possible to dry clean your blanket. But, you should probably wash and dry the weighted blanket yourself. The dry cleaners might not know how to care for your specific blanket.

Ironing

Don’t iron a weighted blanket. You might think ironing will speed up drying your weighted blanket but it will cause more trouble than you want. The intense heat of the iron will melt or warp the blanket fillers. 

Instead, wash your weighted blanket in the morning and let it dry outside throughout the day. This is one of the best methods to avoid wrinkles on your weighted blanket.

You may be able to iron the weighted blanket cover, but consult your manufacturer before proceeding. The best practice is to let them air dry and avoid ironing altogether.

Things to Avoid When Washing Your Weighted Blanket

Washing the core inside the cover – Be sure to remove the weighted blanket core before washing it in your washing machine. Not all weighted blankets have cores. But some cores are not machine washable.

Washing the cover and the blanket – Keep in mind that your weighted blanket has two parts: the cover and the blanket itself. To keep the fabric in good condition, wash the cover and blanket separately.

Washing your weighted blanket with other materials in the washing machine – It is best practice to wash your weighted blanket by itself. Weighted blankets can be quite heavy and you want to make sure that your washing machine can spin fast enough to clean it thoroughly. Also, if you wash a weighted blanket with other clothes of a different material, this can agitate and break down the fabric.

It is possible to run your weighted blanket with a small load of clothes that are the same material. For example, you could wash fleece weighted blankets with a couple of fleece jackets or pants. But if you want to be cautious, wash a weighted blanket separately.

Ironing the blanket – The heat from an iron is too intense for your weighted blanket fillings. Avoid ironing altogether to keep your weighted blanket in good condition for years to come.

Dryer sheets – Dryer sheets contain fabric softener which may irritate the fabric of your weighted blanket. So, it’s best to avoid them when drying your weighted blanket.

Without a dryer sheet, your weighted blanket may come out of the dryer smelling unpleasant. Let it sit outside for a couple hours after it’s out of the dryer. Or, you could just let it air dry completely after it is out of the washer. This will improve its smell.

How to Remove Stains from a Weighted Blanket

Stains are always frustrating, whether it’s on your newly bought weighted blanket or one you’ve had for years. If you travel with your weighted blanket, it might have a few stains that you’d like to remove. You might have tried everything to remove your stain, but nothing has worked. Here is a quick guide on how to remove different types of stains from your weighted blanket. You can use these techniques to clean your weighted blanket core as well. Here are a few general tips to help you as you tackle the tough stains.

  • After removing stains on your weighted blanket, put it in the washing machine on a gentle cold setting. Then, air dry it.
  • If your stain is stubborn and doesn’t go away entirely, you can safely repeat the methods below.

How to Remove Urine Stains

Urine stains are one of the toughest types of stains to remove from your weighted blanket. But the process is easy.

Here are three ways to remove urine stains from your weighted blanket.

1 – Laundry Detergent, Vinegar, and Water

Mix one ounce of liquid laundry detergent, one ounce of vinegar, and 10 ounces of warm or cold water in a bowl.

2 – Soap and Water

You can also use soap and warm or cold water. Put some soap in a container and fill it in your sink to allow the soap and water to mix thoroughly. Then, apply the soapy water to your weighted blanket using a scrub brush, toothbrush, or cloth.

This is the weakest of the three methods to remove urine stains. It’s best for fresh stains. If you don’t have the extra chemicals for the other methods, just repeat using soap and water until you have removed the stain.


3 – Enzyme Stain Remover

If you don’t want to make your own stain-fighting mixture at home, buy an enzyme stain remover. Enzymes help break down tough stains, so this cleaner may be more effective than our other two methods.

How to Remove Sweat Stains

Sweat stains can be difficult to remove because they might span a large area of your weighted blanket, if not the whole blanket.

If you can’t presoak your weighted blanket, buy an enzyme stain remover and spray the surface of the entire stain.

For smaller stains, soap and warm or cold water or one ounce of laundry detergent in a medium-sized bowl of water will break down stains effectively.

How to Remove Wine Stains

Wine stains, particularly red wine stains, will take a strong chemical to remove. You don’t want to use a typical bleach, because that is too abrasive. It will remove all the color in your clothing. But there are non-chlorine bleaches that are designed to use on non-white clothing.

  1. Use a scrub brush to apply non-chroline bleach to the affected area.
  2. Wait 10 minutes for the stain to break down.
  3. Wash your weighted blanket on a gentle cold setting.
  4. Let it air dry.

From October 2021, federal agencies will no longer accept identification cards and driver licenses issued at the state level without stars on them.

The U.S. Congress introduced this law in 2005 after the 9/11 event. It was one of the security measures set forth in the wake of one of the most significant attacks against the United States of America on its own land. It is meant to set minimum standards of security for identification documents issued at the source. These documents include identification cards and driver’s licenses. 

 

From October 2021, federal agencies will no longer accept identification cards and driver licenses issued at the state level without a star on them. It is important to remember that airports are federal facilities. As such, your domestic travels in the USA will be limited to your compliance with the Act.  

 

Does Your Driver’s License Have a Star On It?


To check whether your license has a star on it, check near the top right corner of the card. The star will either be gold or black. 

 

Some states already have enhanced driver’s licenses that comply with the Real ID requirements. Such enhanced licenses do not have a star, but they have the United States of America flag on them. Some of the states that issue both the enhanced driver’s licenses and the Real ID include New York, Minnesota, Vermont, and Michigan. Washington, DC, only issue an enhanced driver’s license, which is also acceptable. 

  

There are other states that already have driver’s licenses that do not have a star but comply with the other requirements from TSA and Homeland Security Agency. These states include Hawaii, Utah, Ohio, and Tennessee. If you are from these states, it is highly recommended that you confirm with your state whether you will need a replacement or not. 

 

You can also tell if your identification card or driver’s license meets the requirements of the Act by checking if it has any of the two phrases below:

  • Federal Limits Apply
  • Not for Federal Identification


What does a star on your driver’s license mean?

The star on your driver’s license certifies that you have met the Real ID Act requirements. This means that the citizenship of the holder has been verified by a state department like the DMV that issued the ID. 

 

How do you get the star on your driver’s license?

The star is given during the application of the state-issued documents. You will need to present more identification documents during your application for your citizenship to be verified. These documents can include your birth certificate, proof of your residential address, and your social security card.

 

If you have a driver’s license without a star, you will need to visit the DMV in your state to replace it with one that has a star.

Why do my Ankles and Feet Swell When I Fly on a Plane?

Many people experience feet or ankles swelling when they fly because sitting for an extended period with your feet on the floor like you do on a plane, makes it hard for blood to flow freely in your legs, which then leads to pooling of the blood in the veins of your legs.

In addition to this, this position also increases the pressure in the veins of your legs. When this happens, blood and other fluids move into the surrounding soft tissues, which in turn causes the swelling some people experience in their feet and/or ankles why they fly. This condition is referred to as gravitational edema and is typically harmless and usually only lasts for a short time once you land.

A few things you can do to take care of your feet and ankles

Don’t worry, there are a few things you can do to help remedy your swollen feet and swollen ankles before, during and after you fly. They are pretty simple and just take a little planning ahead. 

Before Your Flight

  • Wear loose clothes like dresses or sweat pants when you fly.
  • Try to be active in your daily life. Travelers who exercise more in their life are less likely to experience this phenomenon compared to those without an active life.   
  • Seek medical attention before flying if you are at risk of getting blood clots. 
  • Get yourself a pair of compression socks. Compression socks are used to improve the flow of blood, reduce pain and swelling, and to lower the chances of contracting deep vein thrombosis.  
  • Put on comfortable shoes like a pair of flats, sandals or tennis shoes that have plenty of room for your feet. 
  • Drink plenty of water the day of your flight.

During Your Flight

  • Do not sit for more than an hour during your flight. Try to walk up and down the aisle every hour or so to relieve the pressure on your legs. 
  • Do not cross your legs for long periods of time. This restricts the flow of blood throughout your legs. 
  • Shift and change your sitting position as much as possible. 
  • When seated, try to extend and flex your knees, calf muscles, and ankles frequently. 
  • Dehydration will also lead to swelling, so try to stay hydrated throughout the flight. 
  • While drinking fluids during the flight is highly recommended, avoid alcoholic drinks or taking any sedatives. They will make you unsteady and even sleepy, making it difficult for you to move around the aisle.

After Your Flight

If you have a layover, try not to sit down again once you have deplaned. Walk around the terminal to exercise your legs and relieve the pressure. If you need to sit down, find an elevated place for you to put your feet up or a place to keep your legs stretched.

If you were in laced shoes, loosen your shoelaces and try to massage your feet by pressing the soles.

Another solution to relieve the swelling is by soaking your feet in lukewarm water with Epsom salts for 15-20 minutes. After that, try massaging your feet lightly and keep them in an elevated position when you are seated or lying down.

 

If you experience leg pain when flying

If you already know you will experience pain in your legs when flying, you can start by upgrading to a seat with sufficient room when checking in. If none are available, request for a seat next to an exit row. This will give you more room to stretch your legs during the flight. 

Additionally, keep flexing and rotating your feet and ankles, and walk around the cabin every 30-minutes or so. Combine these things with the suggestions above and it should help. I really like using compression socks and have loved these ones.

 

When to get medical help

After landing and resuming your regular activities, your feet and ankles should be back to normal within a few hours. If this does not happen, especially if you are experiencing pain of any kind, then seek medical advice. This could be a sign of more severe issues like deep vein thrombosis, which occurs when there are blood clots in your legs. 

 

Seek medical attention if 

  • Swollen legs don’t return to their normal size within a few hours
  • If only one leg or ankle swells
  • You experience shortness of breath or chest pains in addition to pain or swelling
