Do planes have ignition keys like cars? How do you keep an airplane secure? Does they have keys for the outer doors or cockpit? The short answer is: some airplanes have keys and some airplanes don’t.
Most large planes and jets do not have keys. They start using a combination of switches and knobs. Most small planes do use keys to start, along with keys to interior doors and luggage compartments. Most airplane keys are not required to run the plane. They’re only needed for ignition.
Are keys required to start plane engines?
Typically, large planes and jets do not need keys to start. Many will have keys to secure doors and luggage compartments, though. But, small planes and private aircraft have keys like those you would use for a car. They ignite the engine, but are not often needed to keep the plane running.
If an aircraft requires a key, it will typically have only one engine. These are much easier to operate than dual engine planes. With two engines, as you might expect, both have to be running properly. This takes a lot of work and preparation. You have to know what you’re doing while in the air, too, since you’re managing twice the equipment.
But with a single engine, you won’t need to worry about navigating other buttons and switches in a particular sequence to get the engine running properly. Instead, just turn the key and you’re good to go.
Do commercial airplanes have keys?
Typically, commercial airplanes don’t have ignition keys or keys for doors. Most commercial aircraft have a Cockpit Door Surveillance System, or CDSS. This means that the flight team in the cockpit can see who wants to enter the cockpit door. Most of the time, cockpit doors feature panels where you type in a password to enter. This password is not shared with airline passengers. Only airline staff members know the code.
Most commercial airplanes do not have keys to their exterior doors. The TSA conducts airport security that is thorough enough that doors with locks are not needed. Every passenger has to go through airport security before boarding a commercial plane.
Large jets often have jet bridges instead of doors, which are not locked and unlocked by keys.
You might find some large aircraft with battery master switches. These switches cut off battery power to an airplane in the case of theft. They also prevent your battery from draining which may cause some parts of the plane to fail.
Do small planes have keys?
Most small planes have both ignition keys and keys to interior doors and compartments. Some small aircraft feature throttle locks, which, as the name suggests, lock the throttle. Throttle locks are metal pieces that fit over the throttle and prevent airliners from operating the aircraft. Typically, you can unlock the throttle with either a code or a key.
One reason small aircraft have keys is they are more prone to theft. With a key-powered airplane, as long as the key’s not in the plane itself, it can’t be started. Small planes often sit in large parking lots for up to weeks at a time. They can’t be supervised 24/7 so keys are a great way to keep them secure.
When flying overnight trips, they’re also left in the hangar until the next morning, or the next flight.
Most private jets don’t have ignition keys. Instead, they are used to lock internal compartments and doors. To start a jet, you first need to hook it up to a ground power unit that supplies it with electricity while on the ground. Once that’s hooked up, you can start the engine. Typically, jets will have ignition switches or buttons.
Do large airplanes have keys?
Large airplanes and jets do not have ignition keys or locks. Instead, they use switches and knobs to start the plane. They are flipped and turned in a specific sequence to turn on the engines properly. Generally, large airplanes are more difficult to start than small airplanes, which often have ignition keys.
Some large aircraft have keys for exterior compartments and doors, but the largest jets use jet bridges instead of doors.
You might be thinking: why don’t all large planes have ignition keys? Is it not a security risk? Someone may be able to steal the plane if it’s not locked securely. But, it’s incredibly difficult to steal a plane. The planes are guarded by heavy security and many of them are inside locked garages, hangars, or warehouses. There’re also cameras everywhere, so if you did bypass the security, it wouldn’t be hard for the staff to identify you after the fact.
Do gulf stream airplanes have keys?
Gulf stream jets do not have ignition keys, but some have keys to lock the exterior doors for extra security.
Does the Boeing 747 have keys?
No, the Boeing 747 does not have keys. It starts using a series of switches. The Boeing 747 has what’s called an auxiliary power unit, or APU. Think of it like a generator that powers the plane. To start the Boeing 747, you need to first turn on the APU.
Check out the full process to start the Boeing 747 below.
Do jets have keys?
Most jets do not have ignition keys, but some feature keys to exterior compartments and doors for additional security. Most jets are stored in hangars and constantly monitored, though, so keys are not a necessity.
Do helicopters have keys?
It entirely depends on the type of helicopter. Some helicopters have both ignition keys and keys for the doors. Since helicopters only have a couple of doors, it’s common that if it does have a key, that key will start the helicopter and lock the door. Helicopters that have pistons often have ignition keys, but turbine-powered helicopters do not.
Do fighter jets or military planes have keys?
Fighter jets and military planes do not have keys. Instead, they run by flipping a series of switches to turn on the batteries and start the engines.
You can bring creatine on a plane, according to the TSA. They allow you to bring creatine in your carry-on bag or in checked luggage. Powder containers greater than 12 ounces or 350 mL need to be x-ray screened separately before you board the plane. You can carry them on board, but it’s easier to pack them away in your checked luggage.
If you want to take creatine on a plane, keep in mind that the TSA agent may ask you to open the container.
Does creatine go off once opened?
Creatine will not explode when opened. It will last a few days before it loses its effectiveness and doesn’t give you as much energy for a workout. In a sealed container, creatine lasts many years. You don’t need to worry about it expiring.
Can you store creatine in the fridge?
You can store creatine in the fridge for three to six weeks before it loses its effectiveness. Store creatine in a dry place slightly cooler than room temperature for best results. Before you open creatine, keep it out of the fridge and it will last several years. Once creatine is opened, you can put it in the fridge to make it last longer.
What should you take creatine with?
You can take creatine with water or sugary drinks. Sugary drinks and creatine help absorb the powder more efficiently, but water works fine as well.
Add about 5g of creatine to your drink. Some people can handle higher doses of up to 10g, but you don’t want to eat more than your body can absorb.
Can I take my supplements on a plane?
You can bring supplements on a plane, according to the TSA. They may ask you to open the container, so have it accessible before you enter airport security. You can also pack supplements in your checked baggage. If you’re bringing a large quantity, this is the most convenient.
Can you bring protein powder on a plane?
You can bring protein powder on a plane. If it is over 12 ounces or 350 mL, the TSA will have to x-ray screen the container separately. If you aren’t going to use the powder on the plane, pack it in your checked luggage. This will save you and the TSA agents time.
Can I take protein powder in my suitcase?
You can take protein powder in your suitcase. This is the most efficient way to get through airport security. Most likely, the TSA agents won’t ask you to remove the powder from your checked bag and open it. But, they reserve the right to do so.
How do you pack protein powder for air travel?
What You’ll Need
Plastic bags (or a large freezer bag)
It’s important to keep your protein powder securely packed while traveling. Cleaning up the protein powder can be a huge mess. You don’t want to have to deal with that! Here’s three easy steps to pack your protein powder while on the go.
Scoop protein powder into individual plastic bags.
Each plastic bag should hold about one day’s worth of protein powder. This will make it easy for you to keep track of how much powder you’re using while traveling. If you use a lot of protein powder, you can pack 2-3 servings in each bag. Just make a mental note of how much powder is in each bag before you leave on your trip.
Remove air from the plastic bags and seal them.
Remove the air in the plastic bags so that you will have more space to store them in your shaker bottle. Also, make sure that none of the bags have holes. Secure the Ziploc seal to keep the powder from spilling.
Set them inside your shaker bottle and secure the lid.
If you’re packing light, take all your Ziploc bags and set them inside your shaker bottle. You’ll have your protein powder neatly portioned out and your shaker bottle all in one place.
If all your protein powder doesn’t fit in the shaker bottle, then pack the individual plastic bags in a larger plastic bag. You can bring several large plastic bags, too. But if you want to carry the powder on a plane, keep in mind that anything over 12 ounces needs to be x-ray screened at a security checkpoint.
Let’s say you wanted to use fewer bags to pack your protein powder. Just put all the powder into a large freezer bag and then bring a scoop or measuring cup with you. Then once you get to your destination you can measure out the protein powder.
To be safe, double bag the powder. This way, if one bag breaks, the powder is less likely to spill everywhere inside your checked baggage.
Thanks for reading our article about bringing creatine, protein powder, and supplements on a plane. Remember, they’re both allowed on board, but if you want to save some time at security, pack them in your carry-on bags.
Since you’re going on a trip, you might be interested in what else you can take on a plane. Check out some of our other articles below.
Yes, you can bring a Nintendo Switch on a plane. According to the TSA, you can take portable or handheld electronic devices like laptops, tablets, and Nintendo Switches on a plane.
Devices larger than a cell phone must be scanned in a separate container for security. You can also bring full-sized gaming consoles on a plane or pack them in your checked bags. But, they must be scanned in a separate container before you board the plane.
To make it easier on you and the TSA agents, have your electronic devices ready before going through security. If they are inside your checked bag or carry-on bag and need to be scanned, you are required to take them out. This is a pain if they are buried in your luggage and it slows the airport security agents down.
I’m sure you want to board your plane as fast as possible with no hassle so be sure to have all the devices readily accessible.
Can you use a Nintendo Switch on a plane?
Yes, you can use a Nintendo Switch on a plane. But there are a couple of things to keep in mind:
Your Switch must be in airplane mode before you board the plane.
Airplane mode – Nintendo calls it Flight Mode – blocks all incoming calls and blocks you from connecting to Wi-Fi networks. It also prevents you from connecting to Bluetooth or using GPS. Cell phone and WiFi signals can interfere with airplane GPS and other navigation equipment. So, they require that you put all portable devices into airplane mode before boarding.
Most airlines will allow you to connect to the WiFi once you reach cruising altitude. But, just in case, be sure to run any updates on your Switch before leaving your home.
You can’t use tabletop mode in airplane mode.
There are two main modes on the Nintendo Switch: handheld mode and tabletop mode. Handheld mode, as the name suggests, means you hold the Switch in your hands while playing, much like you would when using a cell phone or iPad.
Tabletop mode involves setting your Switch on a stand and removing the JoyCon controllers on the sides. Then you use these controllers while your Nintendo Switch is on the stand.
But, tabletop mode only works when you have a WiFi connection; you can’t use the JoyCon controllers wirelessly.
Where can I buy a Nintendo Switch?
Amazon has a great deal on their best-selling Nintendo Switch right here. It features neon blue and red JoyCon controllers. Not only that but it has 8+ hours of battery power so you can enjoy it while traveling. The battery power may fluctuate depending on the game you use. You can play this Switch in tabletop mode, handheld mode, or on your TV.
How do you turn on airplane mode on a Nintendo switch?
Press and hold the home button.
On the bottom right-hand side, click ‘Flight Mode’ to toggle it to ‘On’.
Check that you have an airplane icon in the top right corner of your Nintendo Switch.
Here’s a short video showing you how to turn on airplane mode on your Nintendo Switch.
Airplane or flight mode disconnects WiFi and Bluetooth while you’re on board the plane. It also prevents you from disconnecting the JoyCon controllers from the device and using them in tabletop mode.
You can turn on Bluetooth while in flight mode to use your JoyCon controllers. But, this is not safe to do on an airplane.
Can you take a Nintendo Switch dock on a plane?
Yes. But, the Nintendo Switch can be charged with a simple USB C cable. You don’t actually need the charging dock. While traveling, it might be a good idea to keep that in your checked bag.
How to Charge a Nintendo Switch
A Nintendo Switch charges with a USB C cable. Just plug the adapter on the end of the USB C into your outlet. Then plug the other end into your Nintendo Switch and that’s it!
Both the console and the Joy-Cons need charging before use. There are two primary ways to charge your Joy Con controllers.
Hook them up to the charging dock that you received when you bought the Nintendo Switch.
Attach the JoyCons to your Nintendo Switch console while it is charging.
To charge your Nintendo Switch on the go, you have a couple of options
Buy a battery pack that uses USB C.
Plug your Nintendo Switch into your laptop and turn it off to charge it.
Be sure to charge your Switch before you arrive at the airport. This way you can enjoy hours of playing games while traveling.
You can use any small game console like the Nintendo Switch while traveling. Just be sure that it’s switched to airplane mode before use. Depending on what you like to do, this may be one of the best ways to pass the time while flying. The battery power lasts several hours and you can charge the console with a USB C cord – these aren’t hard to find. Pair your Nintendo Switch with a pair of headphones for travel and time will fly by on the plane.
Depending on the materials of the blanket, it may or may not warm you up while you sleep. Also, if you live in a warm climate or tend to sweat while you sleep, you may want a weighted blanket made from breathable fabric. Cotton or fleece are great weighted blanket materials to keep you cool. Or, if you want to sleep warmer, look for a mink fur weighted blanket.
Here is one from Amazon that helps you sleep cooler than most weighted blankets. (see below)
Here is a suggestion for a warmer one from Amazon. (see below)

Should you sleep with a weighted blanket every night?
Absolutely. Sleep with it regularly to get the most out of your weighted blanket. Consistent deep touch pressure will keep you feeling relaxed as long as you use your weighted blanket often. It’s OK if you miss a night or two, but don’t go more than a couple days without using your weighted blanket.
General soreness is normal, but if you start experiencing pain, your weighted blanket may be too heavy.
Can weighted blankets be too heavy?
Yes. Weighted blankets should be between 10 to 12 percent of your body weight. If that seems too light, add a couple of pounds.
Don’t pick one that is too heavy for you. It doesn’t take much weight to irritate your muscles and impact your breathing. Heavier isn’t always better. Some people may enjoy a lighter weighted blanket, while others may enjoy a heavier weighted blanket. You might have to do some experimenting before you find a weight that works best for you.
Generally, don’t go higher than 30 to 35 pounds depending on your build, age, and health.
Who should not use a weighted blanket?
Children under the age of 4
Children less than 50lbs
Seniors in poor health
Children and the elderly are vulnerable to suffocation. For these groups, the prolonged stress on the body from the weighted blankets can cause shortness of breath or, at the extreme, suffocation.
Generally, if you suffer from diabetes, asthma, fragile or overly sensitive skin, claustrophobia, or respiratory or circulatory issues, consult your doctor before using a weighted blanket.
Are weighted blankets good or bad for side sleepers?
Weighted blankets have been proven to reduce anxiety which may improve sleep. It doesn’t matter whether you are a side sleeper, stomach sleeper, or you sleep on your back. They are beneficial for all groups.
For side sleepers in particular, you may want to buy a lighter weighted blanket. You don’t want to put too much pressure on your shoulders, hips, or other joints.
Do you use a top sheet with a weighted blanket?
Using a top sheet is largely up to you. A top sheet can give you a feeling of cozy news or calm or it might make you feel suffocated and claustrophobic. Using a top sheet can also make your sleeping experience warmer. This may be beneficial for you depending on your sleeping habits.
Whether you use a duvet cover for your blanket or not, a top sheet can help further keep your blanket clean and free of smells, sweat, and stains.
Are weighted blankets bad for circulation?
No, as long as the blanket isn’t too heavy. Here’s a chart showing the appropriate weights for your weighted blanket.
If you have circulatory issues, use a lighter blanket. Err on the side of caution and always consult your doctor before using a weighted blanket.
Can weighted blankets be washed?
They can! Follow your manufacturer’s instructions before washing and drying your blanket. The best practice is to wash your blanket on a gentle cold setting. Then, let it air dry outside. To learn more about how to wash your weighted blanket, check out our complete guide.
Are weighted blankets worth it?
A weighted blanket can absolutely be worth it. But it is dependant on your individual situation and preferences. What is a good night’s sleep worth to you? Are you struggling to sleep well? Do you have trouble coping with your anxiety? Do you find it fun to have the weight of an x-ray apron? Or, do you like wrapping up tight in your blankets for the pressure they provide? Then, you might enjoy the benefits of sleeping with a weighted blanket.
Are weighted blankets a gimmick?
No. There is a piling mountain of scientific data around the positive effects of touch and specifically Deep Pressure Stimulation or DPS.
DPS includes anything from holding hands and a massage to weighted vests and weighted blankets.
Benefits include reduced anxiety, improved sleep, and reduced muscle aches.
However, there are some people that don’t like the feel of having additional weight or pressure on them when they sleep. You might just have to try one out for yourself.
If you’re interested in trying out a weighted blanket, it’s important to know about the different types of fillings available to you. Learn more here.
Are weighted blankets good for arthritis?
Weighted blankets can significantly help people suffering from arthritis. Depending on the severity of your arthritis, a weighted blanket may not be a good option. If you are looking for relief, consult a doctor to determine if a weighted blanket is right for you.
Others with conditions like fibromyalgia have also found relief sleeping with weighted blankets. They can also be a really good alternative to sleeping pills or other sedatives before bed. It may not replace your pills entirely, but it can help improve your sleep schedule.
Follow these guidelines in our buyer’s guide to find a blanket that works great for you.
Do weighted blankets help with snoring?
If your snoring isn’t a result of obstructive sleep apnea, a weighted blanket can help. The evenly distributed pressure over your body calms the nervous system. Beyond buying a weighted blanket, be sure to get at least seven hours of sleep if you are between the ages of 18 and 60. Also, try sleeping on your side. This keeps your airway more open and reduces the amount of vibration of your throat tissue.
Are weighted blankets good for chronic pain?
Yes, a weighted blanket can help reduce the chronic pain of arthritis, fibromyalgia, and other conditions. Weighted blankets stimulate the nervous system and relax your muscles over night. This helps release the tension built up during the day caused by stress or long periods of standing or sitting down.
Why are weighted blankets so expensive?
Weighted blankets cost more because of the high quality of the cover fabrics and materials, the filler materials, manpower and manufacturing processes needed, packaging, and shipping costs, and the time it takes to make each one. But, a high-quality weighted blanket can last you for years to come. It may be a worthwhile investment for you if you struggle with anxiety, sleep, or chronic pain.
Have you recently bought a weighted blanket? If so, you might be wondering how to wash it. They can get dirty quickly, but they don’t take much time to clean. The easiest way to wash your weighted blanket is to use a washing machine on low or gentle. Wash the weighted blanket cover by itself if possible so your washer can spin more easily.
Not all weighted blankets are machine washable. In fact, each weighted blanket requires different care. Check out the care tag or instructions that came with your blanket. Be sure to follow those carefully.
If you have lost your instructions, we will provide you with some time-proven ways to wash and dry your weighted blanket.
Read the instructions carefully.
Before you follow any general advice on washing weighted blankets, read the instructions carefully. This will keep your blanket and blanket cover in good condition. You are much less likely to ruin your weighted blanket if you follow the instructions.
If your instructions have faded or you’ve cut them off, here are some general guidelines for washing different types of weighted blankets.
Rayon and Linen Blend Blankets
Wash your rayon linen weighted blanket in cold water only. Warm water breaks down the fabric. Set your washer to the gentle or delicate cycle.
Once your weighted blanket is out of the washing machine, don’t go straight to the dryer. Rayon linen does not hold up when exposed to heat, so it’s best to air dry this blanket. Make sure to consult the manufacturer’s instructions before drying your weighted blanket.
Dry cleaning is popular with the more delicate rayon linen blankets.
Rayon-linen is a soft breathable material that makes for a comfortable weighted blanket.
Like with rayon linen weighted blankets, wash your fleece weighted blanket on the cold gentle cycle in your washer.
Your fleece blanket can be dried on low in your dryer. But, don’t use a dryer sheet. Dryer sheets have fabric softener which makes the fleece retain less water. So, it won’t be as comfortable if the weighted blanket gets too warm. So, just wash the blanket without a dryer sheet.
Or, you could hang it outside on a clothesline or off of your backyard deck to air dry.
Fleece is lightweight, breathable, and best of all, it doesn’t hold moisture. It’s a great material for those who tend to get hot in their weighted blanket.
Cotton and Cotton Blend Blankets
Cotton is lightweight, breathable, and durable. You can wash your cotton weighted blanket using cold water or warm water. Compared to other weighted blankets, you don’t have to worry as much about ruining the fabric. But, wash your blanket by itself for the best results.
Mink Fur Blankets
Mink fur is similar to the other weighted blanket materials on this list. Simply wash the blanket on the gentle cycle using cold water. For an even softer wash, add some laundry detergent before running the cycle.
Mink fur is a high-end soft fur used for coats, jackets, and blankets.
Remove the weighted core
If it has a removable weighted core, remove it and scrub it gently with soapy water. Not all weighted cores are machine washable, so your best bet is to hand wash the core. When in doubt, wash it by hand. Check your manufacturer’s instructions to see if the core can be run in your washing machine.
Wash the Cover
Most weighted blankets come with durable and comfortable covers. You can sleep with the cover on the blanket or without the cover. If you sleep with the blanket cover, remove the blanket on the inside first. Then you can wash the cover on a low cold setting and let it air dry. Wash the blanket separately from the cover to keep the fabric in prime condition.
If you need to remove stains from your weighted blanket, you have a couple of options.
Presoak the affected area.
Depending on where the stain is located, you can soak the blanket in soap and water to loosen the stain. Check the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure that your blanket is safe for soaking.
Use a scrub brush, soap, and water to work away at the tough stain(s).
If you are more hands-on, use a scrub brush and some soap and water to scrub away the tough stains. Just dip the brush in the soapy water and lightly scrub the affected area for a couple of minutes.
For more specific washing instructions, look on the blanket itself for the care tag. Or, consult your manufacturer’s website.
If the instructions allow, tumble dry the cover on the lowest setting. If not, air dry the cover.
It’s possible to dry clean your blanket. But, you should probably wash and dry the weighted blanket yourself. The dry cleaners might not know how to care for your specific blanket.
Don’t iron a weighted blanket. You might think ironing will speed up drying your weighted blanket but it will cause more trouble than you want. The intense heat of the iron will melt or warp the blanket fillers.
Instead, wash your weighted blanket in the morning and let it dry outside throughout the day. This is one of the best methods to avoid wrinkles on your weighted blanket.
You may be able to iron the weighted blanket cover, but consult your manufacturer before proceeding. The best practice is to let them air dry and avoid ironing altogether.
Things to Avoid When Washing Your Weighted Blanket
Washing the core inside the cover – Be sure to remove the weighted blanket core before washing it in your washing machine. Not all weighted blankets have cores. But some cores are not machine washable.
Washing the cover and the blanket – Keep in mind that your weighted blanket has two parts: the cover and the blanket itself. To keep the fabric in good condition, wash the cover and blanket separately.
Washing your weighted blanket with other materials in the washing machine – It is best practice to wash your weighted blanket by itself. Weighted blankets can be quite heavy and you want to make sure that your washing machine can spin fast enough to clean it thoroughly. Also, if you wash a weighted blanket with other clothes of a different material, this can agitate and break down the fabric.
It is possible to run your weighted blanket with a small load of clothes that are the same material. For example, you could wash fleece weighted blankets with a couple of fleece jackets or pants. But if you want to be cautious, wash a weighted blanket separately.
Ironing the blanket – The heat from an iron is too intense for your weighted blanket fillings. Avoid ironing altogether to keep your weighted blanket in good condition for years to come.
Dryer sheets – Dryer sheets contain fabric softener which may irritate the fabric of your weighted blanket. So, it’s best to avoid them when drying your weighted blanket.
Without a dryer sheet, your weighted blanket may come out of the dryer smelling unpleasant. Let it sit outside for a couple hours after it’s out of the dryer. Or, you could just let it air dry completely after it is out of the washer. This will improve its smell.

How to Remove Stains from a Weighted Blanket
Stains are always frustrating, whether it’s on your newly bought weighted blanket or one you’ve had for years. If you travel with your weighted blanket, it might have a few stains that you’d like to remove. You might have tried everything to remove your stain, but nothing has worked. Here is a quick guide on how to remove different types of stains from your weighted blanket. You can use these techniques to clean your weighted blanket core as well. Here are a few general tips to help you as you tackle the tough stains.
After removing stains on your weighted blanket, put it in the washing machine on a gentle cold setting. Then, air dry it.
If your stain is stubborn and doesn’t go away entirely, you can safely repeat the methods below.
Don’t use bleach or other abrasive cleaners. Non-chlorine bleach is great for the worst stains.
When soaking your blanket, use warm or cold water, not hot water.
How to Remove Coffee Stains
If you spilled coffee on your weighted blanket, no problem. Just follow these steps.
Mix one ounce of liquid laundry detergent, one ounce of vinegar, and 10 ounces of water.
Use a scrub brush, toothbrush, or washcloth to scrub the stain for a few minutes.
After scrubbing, wait 10 minutes to allow the stain to break down.
Do not apply undiluted vinegar to your weighted blanket, as this may damage the material. But heavily diluted vinegar will not damage the outer cover or inner blanket. In fact, it helps break down the stains quicker.
How to Remove Urine Stains
Urine stains are one of the toughest types of stains to remove from your weighted blanket. But the process is easy.
Here are three ways to remove urine stains from your weighted blanket.
1 – Laundry Detergent, Vinegar, and Water
Mix one ounce of liquid laundry detergent, one ounce of vinegar, and 10 ounces of warm or cold water in a bowl.
2 – Soap and Water
You can also use soap and warm or cold water. Put some soap in a container and fill it in your sink to allow the soap and water to mix thoroughly. Then, apply the soapy water to your weighted blanket using a scrub brush, toothbrush, or cloth.
This is the weakest of the three methods to remove urine stains. It’s best for fresh stains. If you don’t have the extra chemicals for the other methods, just repeat using soap and water until you have removed the stain.
3 – Enzyme Stain Remover
If you don’t want to make your own stain-fighting mixture at home, buy an enzyme stain remover. Enzymes help break down tough stains, so this cleaner may be more effective than our other two methods.
Here is a popular enzyme cleaner from Amazon to remove stains from your weighted blanket in minutes. (see below)
How to Remove Sweat Stains
Sweat stains can be difficult to remove because they might span a large area of your weighted blanket, if not the whole blanket.
For large stains, presoak your weighted blanket in soapy water. Check your manufacturer’s instructions before presoaking your weighted blanket. Then, wash it on gentle cold and air dry the blanket.
If you can’t presoak your weighted blanket, buy an enzyme stain remover and spray the surface of the entire stain.
For smaller stains, soap and warm or cold water or one ounce of laundry detergent in a medium-sized bowl of water will break down stains effectively.
How to Remove Wine Stains
Wine stains, particularly red wine stains, will take a strong chemical to remove. You don’t want to use a typical bleach, because that is too abrasive. It will remove all the color in your clothing. But there are non-chlorine bleaches that are designed to use on non-white clothing.
Use a scrub brush to apply non-chroline bleach to the affected area.
Wait 10 minutes for the stain to break down.
Wash your weighted blanket on a gentle cold setting.
Hopefully washing a weighted blanket is much less daunting for you. First and foremost, call your manufacturer for their advice on how to care for the specific weighted blanket you purchased. Beyond that, use cold or warm water when treating your weighted blanket. Also, if you wash your blanket in the washer or tumble dry it in the dryer, use the lowest setting.

From October 2021, federal agencies will no longer accept identification cards and driver licenses issued at the state level without stars on them.
Not everyone owns a passport, which is a federally issued document, especially if they are not international travelers. For domestic flights, a state-issued document like a driver’s license is all you need.
However, according to a law called the REAL ID Act, air travelers in the United States require a driver’s license that complies with the Real ID requirements when traveling within the United States of America. Other documents that people will be able to use are passports or the U.S. Military card. Most people use a driver’s license to get through security though. This law means that your driver’s license MUST comply with TSA’s requirements for you to fly domestically. A complying license will have a star on it. Does yours?
The U.S. Congress introduced this law in 2005 after the 9/11 event. It was one of the security measures set forth in the wake of one of the most significant attacks against the United States of America on its own land. It is meant to set minimum standards of security for identification documents issued at the source. These documents include identification cards and driver’s licenses.
From October 2021, federal agencies will no longer accept identification cards and driver licenses issued at the state level without a star on them. It is important to remember that airports are federal facilities. As such, your domestic travels in the USA will be limited to your compliance with the Act.
Does Your Driver’s License Have a Star On It?
To check whether your license has a star on it, check near the top right corner of the card. The star will either be gold or black.
Some states already have enhanced driver’s licenses that comply with the Real ID requirements. Such enhanced licenses do not have a star, but they have the United States of America flag on them. Some of the states that issue both the enhanced driver’s licenses and the Real ID include New York, Minnesota, Vermont, and Michigan. Washington, DC, only issue an enhanced driver’s license, which is also acceptable.
There are other states that already have driver’s licenses that do not have a star but comply with the other requirements from TSA and Homeland Security Agency. These states include Hawaii, Utah, Ohio, and Tennessee. If you are from these states, it is highly recommended that you confirm with your state whether you will need a replacement or not.
You can also tell if your identification card or driver’s license meets the requirements of the Act by checking if it has any of the two phrases below:
Federal Limits Apply
Not for Federal Identification
What does a star on your driver’s license mean?
The star on your driver’s license certifies that you have met the Real ID Act requirements. This means that the citizenship of the holder has been verified by a state department like the DMV that issued the ID.
How do you get the star on your driver’s license?
